Breast Lift Discover a More Alluring, Youthful Bust

We all like to believe that our breasts are going to remain firm, perky, and sexy forever. Unfortunately, time tends to tell a different story. Sagging, drooping breasts are an unfortunate but very common aspect of the natural aging process, and can also follow life events like pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, weight gain, and weight loss.

When to Consider a Breast Lift

The breast lift is a great way to address the presence of sagging or drooping, but it should be noted that this procedure does not change the size, volume, or projection of your breasts. A breast lift with implants, however, can accomplish both goals. During your consultation, Dr. Sundin will get to know your goals and help you by recommending the procedure that’s best for you and your lifestyle. You’ll likely be a great candidate for the breast lift in Richmond, Northern Virginia if you’re interested in:

  • A lifted, more perky bust
  • More symmetrical breasts
  • Reduced or more symmetrical areolas
  • Nipples that point upwards instead of downwards
  • The removal of excess sagging or drooping

Am I the Ideal Candidate for a Breast Lift?

On its own, mastopexy does not add volume or increase the size of breasts that are naturally small or have lost volume due to aging, childbirth, or breastfeeding. For women who are interested in augmenting the size of their breasts, as well as correcting ptosis, a mastopexy can involve the use of breast implants as well.

If you are concerned about the appearance of ptosis and believe you may be a candidate for a breast lift (with or without implants), we encourage you to contact Dr. Burton Sundin or Dr. Reps Sundin for an individual consultation today. As highly experienced, extensively skilled, board-certified plastic surgeons, Drs. Sundin ensure that all surgical procedures offered at the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery are custom-tailored to meet the aesthetic goals of each patient.

Your Breast Lift Options

At your initial consultation, Dr. Sundin will perform a thorough medical evaluation to determine the severity of breast ptosis you are experiencing and discuss with you your aesthetic goals for the surgery. He will then develop a customized surgical plan designed to achieve those goals.

Crescent Lift (Nipple lift)

This technique is best for patients who are experiencing a relatively mild case of ptosis, with slight sagging, and removes a crescent-shaped piece of tissue from just above the areola, elevating the areola to an aesthetically pleasing position.

Benelli Breast Lift (Donut Mastopexy)

Ideal for mild to moderate ptosis, the dual mastopexy (or “donut mastopexy”) technique used in the Benelli Breast Lift removes a donut-shaped piece of tissue from around the areola, then re-attaches the breast tissue to the areola.

Vertical Breast Lift (Lollipop Lift)

Similar to the Benelli Breast Lift, the vertical breast lift (also known as a “lollipop lift”) is ideal for moderate cases of sagging or drooping and creates an additional incision vertically from beneath the areola down to the breast crease to create its results.

Full Breast Lift (Anchor or Inverted-T Lift)

An anchor-shaped incision from the base of the areola to the bottom of the breast enables the removal of a crescent-shaped piece of skin where the breast meets the rib cage. The nipple is then re-positioned to a more aesthetically appropriate location.

Breast Lift with Implants

Unfortunately, a breast lift alone cannot increase breast volume or size. If you’re concerned about the size of your breasts in addition to ptosis, you may be interested in including implants with your procedure. This can enable Dr. Sundin to correct the presence of sagging and drooping, while also improving your bust’s size and projection

The implants will be inserted into a pocket created within the natural tissues either above or under the pectoral muscles. Breast augmentation with the use of implants is a highly customizable procedure, enabling you to achieve exactly the size, shape, and feel that you want. The procedure can, however, be a somewhat daunting process.

During your consultation, Dr. Sundin will review all the implant options with you—saline vs. silicone, implant size and shape, and implant placement—helping you to understand the benefits of all these options, and working with you to select the implant option that will see you most effectively realizing your personal cosmetic goals

Your Breast Lift Experience

A breast lift (with or without implants) usually takes between one and a half to two and a half hours to complete under general anesthesia. The exact time will depend on the scope of the surgery; generally speaking, a lift involving implants will require a more lengthy surgery than one performed without implants, for example.

Incisions will be placed according to a surgical plan that you developed along with Dr. Sundin, and he’ll explain everything about your surgery to you during your preoperative consultation, so you know exactly what to expect on the day. Once Dr. Sundin has made the necessary incisions, he will lift the tissues and reposition your nipples for a more youthful look.

Recovery After Your Breast Lift

After surgery, we will require you to wear a support bra that helps minimize post-operative swelling and facilitate optimal healing. We will encourage you to restrict your normal activities, especially intense exercise and heavy lifting, for at least several weeks after your surgery.

Your results will be immediately visible and will gradually improve over the next two to three weeks, as the post-operative swelling and bruising subside. A breast lift does involve permanent scaring, but your scars will gradually fade over time until they’re barely noticeable.

Before your surgery, we’ll give you a complete recovery timeline and detailed instructions that will help you navigate the recovery process as comfortably and efficiently as possible. We’ll also set follow-up appointments, so we can answer any questions you may have.

How Much Does A Breast Lift Cost?

The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery offers breast lift (mastopexy) procedures ranging from $8,500 to $12,000. This includes the surgeon's fee, anesthesia, facility fees, and follow-up appointments. However, the final price can vary based on the degree of ptosis (sagging) of the breasts and whether additional procedures, such as breast augmentation or reduction, are combined with the mastopexy.
